This e-mail refers to Room. 20, The Anniversary Suite
Hi Simon,
Meant to drop you a line ages ago but the rat race here in the big smoke is as thriving as ever and I never seem to have the time to indulge myself with a social life.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at your place so much so that you hardly saw much of us. If you must know, we liked the room so much that we didn’t even make it to the concert in the end! I really hope we get to return soon, it certainly has some fond memories for us. I bet you must get really busy in the summer so I really should reserve my room NOW!
As for any suggestions on how to improve the room, I could think of none, perhaps a mirror on the ceiling (No, Just joking!!!!!!!). The bath was great (maybe bigger taps so it will fill faster) the bed was awesome but without doubt, the best part was the breakfast. Definitely legendary!
Hope you and Rhona are well. Take care and email every now and then if you need to share your wicked sense of humour!

We booked based upon
the high ratings
provided by Trip Advisor
because we wanted a
little quality, but were
very disappointed.
Whilst the downstairs
reception rooms were
elegantly and
expensively furnished
and the breakfasts were
exceptionally good, the
rooms (and we saw 3
including the
Anniversary Suite) were
about the usual
Blackpool standard; ie
clean, but small, tired,
cluttered and in need of
renovation or a
makeover. Even though it
was explained that
repairs were taking
place after a roof
collapse earlier this
year, we shouldn't have
had to put up with a
door missing from the
shower, extractor-fan
not working, inadequate
room for towels,
crackly, sweaty plastic
mattress protector
(there are good
alternatives!) and a
dark warning in the
guest information book
threatening over £100
charged to your credit
card if you damage the
bed-throw (which looked
worth half that.).
The hosts were really
attentive but we have
had better space and
comfort at ordinary
Blackpool B & B's. I'd
been hoping to treat my
Lady to somewhere a bit
special, but was
disappointed.

Just got back from a great weekend stay at this hotel.
Arrived late on friday evening (9pm) and still recieved a warm welcome from Simon. No fuss checking in, Simon was expecting us and gave us a brief introduction to the hotel before showing us to our room.
Following our arrival, we went out for a short while, we had our own front door key and didnt have to return to the hotel by any particular time before being locked out.
Breakfast on both mornings was excellent. Both Simon and Rona were exemplary hosts and made us feel like valued guest throughout our stay.
Lovely clean room, iron, iron board and hairdryer were provided, these were welcomed, beats ironing on a towel on the floor..!! Thanks
The hotel is situated North of the North pier, probably approx 30min walk South to the tower, tram access 2min walk from the hotel.
I enquired with Simon and Rona about a place to eat on sat evening and they pointed us inthe direction of the Red Lion (about £5 taxi trip away), They arranged a cab for us from the hotel which was there promptly, great meal as well.
Hotel is highly recommended, accommodation in blackpool is a bit of a lottery to say the least, when we return to blackpool it will certainly be back to this hotel.
Many thanks Simon and Rona

Just returned from a short break in Blackpool. If every hotel had hosts like these, there would be no complaints from anyone. Simon and Rhona just cannot seem to do enough to make your stay a pleasant one. The breakfasts have to be the best in Blackpool, they are freshly cooked to order - you don't get that in many places anywhere these days. All their ingredients are top quality as well.
The rooms are clean and comfortable. the children had a playstation provided for them in their room - free of charge - happy days!!
Value for money - well you just won't get any better I don't think.
Well done to the pair of you - you are a credit to your vocation.

On our arrival we had a lovely welcome & help with finding a parking space.
The rooms were average size & very clean, the en-suite was a tight fit.
The breakfast was lovely & plenty of it.
The location was a twenty minute walk to blackpool tower or you could take a tram which cost £1.50
We would definetly stay here on our next visit to blackpool.

this is definitely the best small hotel in the blackpool area. we have been taking autumn breaks here for over 20 years. the breakfast is the best ever and can be tailored to suit everyone`s taste. nothing is too much bother for simon and rhona and each room has a hairdryer, iron and ironing board together with tea/coffee making facilities and up to date glossy magazines. there are also courtesy newspapers in the lounge. this is a hotel we will return to, time and time again. thank you simon and rhona. ray.

Excellent hotel for a family break in Blackpool. Friendly service- proprietors Simon and Rhona work tirelessly to ensure you enjoy your stay. The food was wonderful- definitely the best breakfast in Blackpool! Ample servings and options- hot food cooked to order. Our rooms were clean and comfortable. The children loved the play station in their room. The four poster bed and en suite were a pleasant bonus to our last minute booking.
The hotel is ideally located in a quieter area on Blackpool's North Shore- no noise or trouble and only a short walk to the nearest tram stop or easily walkable distance to centre of town even with children.
We look forward to return visits and would recommend this hotel to other families and couples who want the bright lights of Blackpool without the all night parties and loutish behaviour.( hen and stage parties not welcome here)

Our family of four (42, 39, 10 and 4 y.o.) plus my brother and his girlfriend booked directly with the hotel after using Trip Advisor to point us in the right direction. Once again, the advice of the site couldn’t be faulted and no doubt saved us from the lottery of finding a decent B&B in a town with its share of bad press (not all of it fair) in this regard.
We came up for the World Fireworks Championships, which were excellent, to see the illuminations of course and to have a day down the Pleasure Beach: tip – don’t go at the weekend if you can avoid it, we were faced by an invasion from across Hadrian’s Wall on the day we went. The updated Dr Who exhibition also provided a welcome distraction for the kids as well as us nostalgia merchants who spent half their childhood hiding behind the sofa.
In line with previous reviews, Simon and Rhona are exemplary hosts and to say that they go the extra mile to make you feel welcome doesn’t do them enough justice. We felt as if we had known them for years by the end of the weekend. The location is great and thankfully hen and stag-party free being a couple of streets back from the sea front and a few hundred yards up from the Hilton. A walk to the north pier will take 25 minutes but of course, we bought family tickets and used the very frequent trams throughout. We were given room10 (double en-suite with a handy fridge) with the kids next door in 11 (bunks plus a single) and Steve and Val nearby in 9. Best of all, we could leave both doors open at night for all the “mummy, hug!” moments as we had a separately bolted door off the landing. The kids also had a playstation in their room to keep them busy - Kira enjoyed ‘Finding Nemo’ – and both rooms had TV/DVD combo-sets. We paid just over £80 B&B per night, which is excellent value for two rooms in one of the busiest weekends of the year. Everything is spotlessly clean and Simon and Rhona have clearly invested considerable time, money and effort in general décor and furnishings.
The hotel might not be the best place for those on a diet, Simon will cook a full breakfast to order plus there’s juice, cereal, cheese, fruit and the usual trimmings. The sausages are already the stuff of legend in our household. They also have a lovely snug bar including a well-stocked - apart from the Magners, which I probably managed to make a serious dent in :-) - selection of ‘refreshing beverages’ plus the aforementioned Space Invaders (could the weekend have been more perfect!). When we decided on a take-away on the day we arrived, out came all the best crockery set up in the bar and they even phoned it in for us after giving various recommendations. I don’t know when we’ll be planning our next trip up to Blackpool but when we do, we’ll definitely be staying here again.

Stayed at The New Guilderoy with my wife and 2 kids over the bank holiday weekend and we all had a great time.
Simon and Rhona are excellent hosts who can not do enough for you.
The hotel is a Blackpool Hotel - so don't expect gigantic rooms, flashy marble en-suites and the latest in fixtures and fittings. But in Blackpool it would be hard to beat unless you paid an awful lot more money. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean by Rhona.
The breakfasts were great - with a wide choice.
Parking is not an issue - we stayed in a busy period and managed to park right outside the hotel at all times. When we first arrived we had to park a hundred yard away and Simon offered to move his car for us as it was right outside. However, an adjoining space then became free and this did not even proove necessary.
Being on the North Shore it is in a remarkably quiet location; and we had three great uninterupted nights sleep. However, the tower is only 10 minutes away on the tram, and the Pleasure Beach 20 minutes away.
They do not cater for Hens & Stags which is great when you are a family; and they do not take bookings from passers by - only pre-bookings
If you want a small hotel in Blackpool - choose the New Guilderoy

Needing a family friendly hotel for myself, partner and 7yr old son I spent over 3 hours looking through feedback sights on blackpool hotels before finally settling on New Guilderoy. I chose Simon and Rhona's hotel as every review claimed it to be family friendly and welcoming. I have to say that those comments were spot on! A 10min walk past the North Pier, the hotel is away from the madness of the stag and hen parties further down the prom.so a good nights sleep is guaranteed! This does make it a bit more of a trek to most of the attractions however the tram and bus stops are only 2mins at the bottom of the road and if you have a car the pleasure beach is only a 5-10min drive otherwise its a good 25-30min walk which we would've loved had the sun been out! That aside, the hotel is clean & spotless (beds made to perfection every day-thanks Rhona!), comfortable and cosy and Simon and Rhona go out of their way to make you feel almost like your at a friends house rather than just 'another hotel guest'. I personally find that kind of welcome and friendliness more appealing than say the moderness of a large, new build hotel where often you're just a number. They provide a fantastic freshly cooked (using fresh local produce) breakfast and there is also cereal and toast aplenty. They can provide evening meals if you require and will cater for vegetarians which sadly my partner found the pubs/restaurants of blackpool don't do on a great scale!! They have a cosy bar area where they will happily have a chat with you as well as a drink and although my son is a playstation and Nintendo victim he was really drawn to the original Space Invaders table Simon has just off the bar area!
Another example of the owner's thoughtfulness was when my son asked to borrow a dvd to watch in the room and they happily handed him 6 or 7 to take up and chose at his leisure. As it was Simons birthday on our last night, he put food in the bar area and invited us to have some drinks with him and Rhona. Again, he provided home cooked fresh nibbles including the best Chicken Tikka i've ever tasted! To sum up the Guilderoy, I would will be honest and say yes there are bigger and fancier hotels in blackpool, however if you want great value, friendliness and a personal touch this is the place to be. I honestly dont believe the bigger hotels offer half the attention to detail that the Guilderoy's owners provide and due to their genuine caring nature they put 100% into making you're stay in their 'home' as comfortable as possible!! Simon and Rhona, thanks again for a lovely stay! Billy, Lisa and Jamie, Edinburgh
